Stephen Guppy was born in Nanaimo in 1951 and now works as a professor in the Creative Writing and English departments at Nanaimo's Malaspina University-College. His stories and poems have appeared in Best Canadian Stories, the Journey Prize Anthology, the Prentice-Hall Guide for Student Writers, and numerous periodicals including the Alaska Quarterly Review, Event, Grain, Stand, Hawaii Review, and Ambit. For his work, Guppy has been short-listed for the Dorothy Livesay Award for Poetry (BC Book Prizes); the Journey Prize for Fiction; the Scottish International Poetry Competition; and the Lexicon Poetry Competition (London UK).
